I made this Level Design on Age of Mythology with Jules Ismael Tien & Hadrien Auvray who helped me on dialogues and the base concept .
This Level Design is a mission which could take place during the main campaign of age of Mythology ( except that we modified and created new characters / gods / cities ) .
In this Level Design we wanted to challenge the player on 2 specific aspects of a RTS game , the micro management and the macro management , we also wanted to add an infiltration phase which is uncommon in RTS game .
In this scenario , Arkentos ( hero / player ) has to break the siege of Malista, a port city who is the ennemi to Prostagma an other port city of the same archipelago, the siege must be broken before the arrival of Prostagmean reinforcements.Their only chance is to access a temple to ask a divine intervention .
Phase 1 : In order to reach an ally village on the island Arkentos with his better men are exfiltrated from Malista by crossing the forest nearby .
However some patrols of Prostagmeans soldiers are keeping an eyes on the forest .
In this phase we wanted to challenge the player on their information collect and their sense of timing .
Here is a diagrams of the different timings for patrols
Phase 2 : Arkantos and his men arrive in the village , they have to eliminate the guards in order to release the villagers.
This is a micro management phase where the player has to target specific opponent units with their specific units in order to maximize their DPS.
Phase 3 : Arkantos controls the village, he has to face patrols arriving from different direction (with specific composition ) while creating an army to access the temple well guarded by Prostagmean's forces.
This is macro management phase when the player has to adapt their unit production to counter the different patrol's composition.
Phase 4 : Arkentos and his army fight to access the temple .
It's the climax of the scenario.
Phase 5 : Arkentos and the Malistean army face the last prostagmean's forces & kill Macobos to get rid of the prostagmean's threat.
It's the scenario conclusion.
